What is retrofitting?

Retrofitting refers to replacing the refrigerant and a small number of parts of an existing R12 or R22 freezer and continuously using the system in an optimized condition.

Specifically, it refers to the case where R22 is changed to an HFC refrigerant.

Cautions in replacing R22 with HFC

Generally...

  • - Lower power than R22
  • - Higher pressure than R22
  • - Higher compressor power than R22
  • - Most HFC refrigerants are non-azeotropic refrigerants.
  • - There is a power loss due to temperature gradient.
  • - If a refrigerant leak occurs, the components will change.
